I saw this morning that the House had passed the President’s budget bill. I also read how the bipartisan Congressional Budget Office reported that it will cut Medicare. Christians will be outraged!
Matthew 25:45 - “He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’
So where are the Christians, are they following Jesus? Jesus calls us to take care of those in need.
The cuts will come because of the massive growth in debt caused by deep tax cuts to the rich.
Matthew 6:19 - “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal….”
So where are the Christians, are they following Jesus? Jesus tells us not to store up wealth for ourselves. There are many warnings against this, the starkest is the rich man and Lazarus (Luke 16:19-31). Yes, someone came back from the dead and many don’t believe.
There is a spending increase for ICE to keep foreigners out of our country, well only the ones different from the chosen group.
Leviticus 19:33-34 - “‘When a foreigner resides among you in your land, do not mistreat them. The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the Lord your God.
Matthew 25:35b - … I was a stranger and you invited me in,...
So where are the Christians, are they following Jesus? In the Old Testament; Israel is commanded to welcome foreigners in multiple places. Often included is a reminder that they were foreigners back in Egypt. When Abram is called by God, he is told everyone will be blessed through him (Genesis 12:3) Jesus fulfills that promise, however the religious leaders were not happy. Jesus was reaching out to Gentiles and Samaritans; Samaritans were illegal; they had intermarried and had compromised their faith by combining with other Gods (2 Kings 17:24-41)
Matthew 7:16-23 By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus, by their fruit you will - “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’
